The library training addresses the WUT students and faculty and all interested users.

Training programmes at WUT Main Library:

Training for undergraduate students

  • The library training for the university beginners - The training is addressed to all students who have just started their studies at WUT. The training programme is obligatory. Each student has the possibility to take part in the training which is usually organize at the beginning of the winter term between October and December. The training lasts 2 hours and helps students become acquainted with the whole range of possibilities offered by our library.
    The program consists of:
    • general information about our library system
    • opening hours
    • library structures and organization
    • information about the library holdings and access to possibilities
    • library Catalogues and multi-search engine
    The training can take a form of:
    • traditional lecture - 2 hours lecture in the Main Library or in in some faculty libraries
    • online course

  • Regular course: “Scientific and Patent Information” - The course is addressed to undergraduate students and the programme has been developed in accordance with the requirements of the National Qualifications Framework and the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Currently implemented by Faculty of Civil Engineering (studies in English as medium of instruction).

Training for graduate and postgraduate students

  • The library training for graduate students - “The Library step by step and the guide to electronic resources“. It is addressed to the  students who have just started their graduate studies at WUT.
    The training programme includes:
    • General information about our library system
    • The WUT Computer Central Catalogue and multi-search engine
    • Access to printed and electronic resources
    • E-resources (how to search a specific journal or book titles; how to search literature on a specific subject)
    • Standard and patent information
    Currently implemented by The Faculty of Engineering Production.

  • Regular course “Information Literacy” - The course is conducted by librairans and addressed to graduate students. WUT ML specialists conduct lectures, workshops and also offer e-learning.
    The programme includes the following topics:
    • Review of bibliographical databases
    • Review of information sources on the Internet
    • building a search strategy for literature in databases
    • evaluating search results and gathering data
    • Citation Managers - managing downloaded information and attachments

  • Librarians' support to the faculty regular course - The programme includes the following topics:
    • reviewing of bibliographical databases
    • reviewing of information sources on the Internet
    • building a search strategy for literature in databases
    • evaluating search results and gathering data
    • Citation Managers - managing downloaded information and attachments
    Currently implemented at the Faculty of Building Services, Hydro and Environmental Engineering as a part of regular course Searching and Sharing of Knowledge (5 from 15 hours)

  • “Informacja o zasobach bibliotecznych” (Information Literacy) for the PhD students - An obligatory course for PhD students. 4 hours of lectures + e-learning. The aims are:
    • acquainting students with the WUT Main Library holdings, including both printed and electronic resources
    • building a search strategy for literature in databases
    • managing scientific information from various sources
    • introducing the principles of preparing footnotes, citations and references
    • introducing the regulations concerning intellectual and industrial property and  review of patents’  databases
    • acquainting students with databases and tools like Web of Science, Scopus, Publish or Perish etc.
    • introducing the principles of making a proper assessment
    • selection of search results and applying them in a scientific work

  • Tailored (subject) workshops for graduate and postgraduate students on searching literature and creating their own bibliographic database
    The training can be organized for a particular faculty or individually for interested groups of students. It  consists of a lecture followed  by workshops.
    Up to 20 students can participate in one workshop session which lasts 2 teaching hours (90 minutes). The structure and content of each session depend on the students and the course specialization. The course comprises (among other topics):
    • Electronic Information Sources (e.g. E-Books, E-Journals, bibliographic databases and central catalogues)
    • searching for literature in databases
    • searching for patents and standards etc.
    The length and frequency of the training units depend on the needs of the group and will take place either in ML Training Room or at the particular faculty.

Each module will be prepared on request and tailored to the needs of indywidual WUT departments (in the field of electronic information sources, the literature search strategy, Web of Science and other databases for citations of the scientific literature).

Online training

The training, placed on the Main Library E-Learning Platform can be used by interested library users as separate teaching material or can complement traditional methods and forms of training offered by the Main Library, see E-Learning Platform
